Spring means ONE THING!

“Be like a postage stamp – stick to one thing until you get there.” – Josh Billings

It is a new season and for those of us in the southern hemisphere, it is the beginning of spring. The days are becoming longer and the sun seems to be shining a little brighter!

At this time of the year it is common for people to feel a little worn-out and as a result they slow down on the momentum they have gained throughout the year. For others it may be an indicator that you’ve completely missed the plot and achieved very little during the last 8 months and this may leave you feeling very despondent. BUT, I invite you to consider the fact that the game or the race is always won in the second half. We are well into the second half of the year and now is the time to dig deep giving it your all for the next 100 days… to do this you will need ONE THING!

Spring means ONE THING – it is time to firmly decide on what you will do and what you will abandon.

Yes, abandon! To make time for you to focus on your ONE THING, you will need to abandon some of the other things consuming your time and energy.

What is the ONE THING you will focus on in this new season?

What is the ONE THING that you know beyond a shadow of a doubt will give you the most leverage?

What is the ONE THING that will give you the biggest year-end you have ever had?

Earlier this week, Liesl challenged me, or rather told me to de-clutter some of the areas of our home, specifically the garage and my home office. Like a good husband, I was quick to act and immediately realised how much money and energy I had spent over the years on things, ideas and initiatives that never really flourished, some that never even started :(.

I found some things that I had completely forgotten about like branded items that were still sealed, items that we will never be able to use (embarrassed monkey emoji) because that iteration of our corporate identity is long gone. Yes, years ago I was more concerned about keeping the branding fresh as opposed to focusing on becoming better at our ONE THING.

I reasoned with myself and justified it by seeing it as a representation of the fact that at least I can say I tried many things, even if many of them never worked… at least I can say I tried… blah blah blah blah

However, when I was done justifying my behavior, I looked at all these things that had gathered so much dust and saw it for what it is: All of those things were purchased more or less during the same time a few years ago and what led me down that path was me losing sight of my ONE THING!

It is true; when you lose sight of your ONE THING it becomes easy to get seduced into meetings, conversations and even purchases that don’t serve your vision. The opposite is also true of people who cannot be swayed because they have become incredibly focused on doing their ONE THING really well.

So, I invite you to look at your business and or your personal life and choose the ONE THING that you will commit all your energy and efforts to. I would love nothing more than to share with you what the best thing is to focus on but in reality only you know that answer. You know what your vision is, you know what your values are, you know what your strengths and talents are and therefore it is up to you to make a firm decision today and choose your ONE THING!

Enjoy the rest of your week good people.

Until next time
